L’origine nationale et l’insertion économique des immigrants au cours de leurs dix premières années au Québec1

Abstract
L’influence de l’origine nationale des immigrants dans leur intégration économique, dimension fondamentale de leur établissement, est étudiée à trois points de leur parcours : après six mois, après un an et demi puis à la fin de leur dixième année de séjour. Les données proviennent de l’Enquête sur l’établissement des nouveaux immigrants (eéni) qui a suivi, pendant dix ans, un échantillon de la cohorte arrivée dans la grande région de Montréal en 1989 . L’analyse montre l’évolution de l’effet net de l’origine nationale en tenant compte des éléments de capital humain et des conditions de la migration sur le statut socioéconomique et le revenu d’emploi au fil du temps : très présent en début d’établissement, cet effet disparaît après dix ans pour certaines origines mais se maintient pour d’autres. Trois catégories d’hypothèses qui pourront être testées par des analyses dynamiques sont avancées pour expliquer cette évolution : discrimination, adaptation des immigrants et adaptation de la société.
