En nous efforçant de penser les présupposés de la traduction, nous nous sommes efforcés de mettre en lumière les thématiques d’ordre idéologique qui conditionnent notre représentation de la traduction. Cette réflexion au sujet des limites de la traduction nous a conduit à remplacer les catégories opposées de « langue ordinaire » et « langue poétique » par les catégories de l’informatif et du poïétique. Ces catégories, qui instaurent une nouvelle répartition, c’est-à-dire une différence de degré plutôt que de nature, sont largement autant tributaire de la finalité du texte original que du regard interprétatif du lecteur-traducteur ; deux aspects qui ne peuvent être dissociés que pour des raisons méthodologiques. C’est le sens visé de l’original qui doit constituer le critère normatif de la procédure traductive.
