The closed loop bridged shuffle-exchange network is a high-performance self-routing ATM switch architecture, based on a multistage interconnection network (MIN), built out of unbuffered 3/spl times/3 switching elements. The interconnection pattern is set up in such a way as to make use of the principal of error-prevention routing. It is basically an output queued architecture in which the number of cells that can be concurrently switched equals the number of its stages. The switch performance is studied under uniform traffic and full load conditions. The switch is shown to achieve high throughput and low cell loss probability using a number of stages of the order of logN, thus approaching the theoretical limit for an ideal MIN switch.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">&gt;</ETX>
