L’étude vise à vérifier le modèle de la motivation de Dweck et ses collaborateurs voulant que la conception statique ou dynamique de l’intelligence soit liée aux buts d’apprentissage que poursuit un élève dans une démarche cognitive. Des garçons et des filles du début, du milieu et de la fin des études secondaires ont répondu individuellement à des questionnaires portant sur leur conception de l’intelligence et sur les buts qu’ils poursuivent. Selon les résultats, la conception statique de l’intelligence diminue avec l’âge et elle est semblable chez les garçons et les filles. Les résultats n’appuient que partiellement l’hypothèse du lien entre la conception de l’intelligence et les buts d’apprentissage. Des questions méthodologiques ainsi que l’importance de situer la notion d’intelligence dans des contextes particuliers sont discutées.
