Abstract
L’aide aux élèves est une notion peu interrogée dans les travaux de recherche en éducation. La difficulté à circonscrire la notion résulte sans doute de ses multiples occurrences et emplois dans le champ scolaire. Dans le cadre d’une étude anthropo-didactique, nous présentons des résultats qui visent à interroger l’adéquation entre les intentionnalités professorales initiales (aider les élèves en difficulté) et les résultats obtenus. À travers quelques exemples, nous interrogerons les dispositifs d’aide dans un contexte d’enseignement mathématique d’adaptation scolaire au secondaire. Nous montrerons qu’au contraire du but initial recherché, ils contribuent massivement à compliquer le travail des élèves voire à le suspendre, au point que celui-ci devienne incertain et chaotique. Nous nommerons ce phénomène didactique : « effet Pharmakéia » en référence au terme grec classique signifiant tout à la fois « remède » et « poison ».
