A novel, low cost organic data storage system was investigated. The device demonstrated electrical field induced switching and bistable characteristics, and can be used as non-volatile memory. The material stack consisted of top and bottom electrodes, an organic active layer, and a conductive polymer interface layer sandwiched in between the electrodes. The active materials are solution-based and can be readily deposited via graphic arts printing processes. This technology enables switching and memory capabilities for large area flexible electronics using solution deposition processes and low cost solution based materials.
