Due to the growing requirement for process controls in automated plants, electrical consumers are becoming increasingly more sensitive to the quality and reliability of the power supplies. Thyristor-based static transfer switches (STSs) are able to provide critical loads with a fast transfer to a backup auxiliary source when the main source fails. A static transfer switch model in EMTPWorks RV is developed. Results from three test cases concerning the STS system are presented.
