Abstract
Through broad changes wrought by the advent of the computer, a revolution has occurred in the way the world works. The computer is heralded as a panacea for the problems in many fields. In the field of development studies in particular, information technology (IT) is seen as offering developing countries a means to bypass the linear model of modernization theory, and offers the prospect of catapulting neolithic societies into the information era. This paper examines whether the application of IT to the field of health care in a developing country produces the benefits expected or simply creates different problems.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
