Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse aux effets de l’interaction culturelle en situation coloniale sur le mode de vie des Malécites, plus particulièrement ceux de Viger au Québec. Le paradigme de l’indigénisation développé par l’anthropologue Marshall Sahlins sera mis à contribution afin de comprendre comment les Malécites ont agi et continuent d’agir face à la présence euro-canadienne sur leur territoire. Il ressort que cette rencontre a transformé leurs traditions mais qu’elle n’a pas entraîné la disparition de ce groupe culturel au Québec. Passant quelque peu inaperçus parce que supposément « acculturés », happés dans une modernité globale et homogénéisante, les Malécites de Viger méritent pourtant notre attention, non pas en tant que représentants de l’idée de « tristes tropiques » issue du courant rousseauiste, mais au contraire parce qu’à chaque moment de leur histoire ils ont su assumer culturellement ce qui venait les toucher.
