Abstract
La construction des identités de genre dans le contexte spécifique des quartiers populaires est communément associée à la tradition : filles et garçons « de banlieue » seraient entièrement définis par l’héritage le plus souvent africain de leurs parents. Grâce à une enquête par entretiens compréhensifs et observation ethnographique menée dans trois cités de la banlieue parisienne, on verra que la référence à la tradition dans la construction de leur identité de genre est bien souvent une invention visant à légitimer une domination masculine ancrée dans la société française contemporaine, voire une fausse problématique incapable de rendre compte de sa complexité.
