Ingestión de bebidas alcohólicas por conductores de vehículos en la provincia Villa Clara

Abstract
OBJETIVO: determinar la frecuencia de ingestión de bebidas alcohólicas por conductores en la provincia de Villa Clara. MÉTODOS: como parte de un estudio de intervención se realizó vigilancia activa sobre la ingestión de bebidas alcohólicas por los conductores, desde el 25 de abril de 2003 hasta el 31 de octubre del mismo año, en vías urbanas y rurales, de viernes a domingo, en semanas alternas. Se determinó la concentración de alcohol con el equipo Alcotest 7410 RS Plus. Fue detenido cualquier tipo de conductor independientemente del tipo de vehículo, procedencia o provincia de registro. Fueron calculadas las frecuencias absolutas y relativas para cada una de las categorías de las variables de interés. RESULTADOS: fueron estudiados 6 461 conductores, de los cuales 805 (12,46 %) resultaron positivos. El 9,82 % tuvo concentraciones de alcohol £ 0,08 mg/L, 77,26 % con cifras entre 0,09 y 1,00 mg/L y 12,92 % con cifras ³ 1,00. Las mayores frecuencias de ingestión de bebidas alcohólicas se encontraron en los conductores de vehículos de tracción animal, de tractor, de bicicleta y de motor con porcentajes de 44,27; 36,56; 28,57 y 27,26; respectivamente. El 25,73 % de los conductores con vehículos registrados en otras provincias fueron positivos y el 11,39 % de Villa Clara. Fue más frecuente detectar conductores positivos los meses de junio (16,9 %) y agosto (15,8 %). CONCLUSIONES: la frecuencia de ingestión de bebidas alcohólicas encontrada hace necesario fortalecer las políticas de prevención de accidentes para controlar esta conducta de riesgo, y estimular la realización de investigaciones sobre alcohol y conducción.
