Abstract
Arrivés au début du XIXe siècle, les Irlandais forment une des quatre nations fondatrices du Canada. Au Québec, la contribution culturelle irlandaise ne fait pas de doute dans les domaines de la musique et du conte populaires; en outre, certains écrivains québécois, parmi lesquels Jacques Ferron, proposent une perception particulière de l'Irlande. Les éléments essentiels qui rapprochent le Québec et l'Irlande relèvent de la société post-coloniale : la religion et la langue minoritaires, le mépris des autorités, les sentiments anti-establishment, le désir de liberté et d'autonomie. Cependant, l'Irlande qu'a réellement aperçue Jacques Ferron existe surtout dans son imagination. L'essai qui suit est la réponse d'un Irlandais québécophile à cette vision des choses.
