Abstract
Les éleveurs de Tchoukotka sont confrontés au risque permanent de la perte de leurs rennes, animal considéré comme un «cas limite» du processus de domestication. Pour faire face à cette menace, ceux-ci ont recours à plusieurs types de stratégies, relevant à la fois des domaines technique et symbolique. Cette note de recherche en présente brièvement trois: la mémoire visuelle et l’outillage terminologique lui correspondant; être en interaction régulière avec le troupeau, par exemple par le dressage des rennes pour les atteler aux traîneaux; et la nécessité de faire les rituels et de respecter les interdits et les prescriptions de comportement concernant l’animal.
