We have very little to state, by way of a response, to Bachu et al. (2002) except to make the following brief observations and comments. 1. reader will note that the title specifically deals with the relation between stratigraphic elements, pressures, and hydrocarbons with an emphasis on Mesozoic units. This emphasis is clearly stated in Putnam and Ward (2001, p. 692): The major aim of this article is to document and interpret the significance of overpressured Mesozoic sandstones in western Alberta. Bachu et al.'s (2002, p. 525) comments, however, are focused on pressure and flow systems ... particularly in the Devonian. ...
