Abstract
El soberanismo quebequense ha perdido empuje. La aspiracion de que la mayoritariamente francofona provincia canadiense de Quebec se declarase soberana tuvo su apogeo en la primera mitad de los anos 1990s, para luego comenzar a declinar. En las elecciones de 2003, el soberanista Partido Quebequense, que detentaba el gobierno provincial desde 1994, fue derrotado por el Partido Liberal de Quebec. Este ultimo sostiene una postura federalista, o sea de buenas relaciones con la federacion canadiense. En la provincia de Quebec, las transformaciones demograficas, la incertidumbre economica debida a su posible separacion de Canada, y la fatiga ciudadana generada por el constante conflicto politico alrededor de la soberania, son algunas de las razones de la (relativa) perdida de apoyo al soberanismo. Por anadidura, en el resto de Canada ha disminuido en gran medida la receptividad habida en anos anteriores hacia la causa soberanista. Salvo acontecimientos imprevisibles, parece ser que Quebec seguira formando parte de la federacion canadiense, no tanto por imposicion de esta ultima, sino por insuficiente apoyo popular a la soberania dentro de la propia Quebec.
