Migrants maghrébins et leurs descendants : un marché matrimonial sur les deux rives de la Méditerranée

Abstract
Les sociétés maghrébines sont en transition d’un système matrimonial à mariage précoce et arrangé par le groupe familial vers un système à mariage tardif où le libre choix du conjoint devient effectif. La socialisation dans la société française a-t-elle favorisé la fin de cette transition pour les descendants de migrants ? Pour répondre à cette question générale, nous avons comparé, en utilisant les données d’enquêtes sur l’histoire familiale EHF(1999) et sur l’histoire de vie HDV (2003), des descendants de migrants maghrébins avec des immigrés du Maghreb arrivés récemment en France et présentant des caractéristiques socioéconomiques similaires. Nous avons constaté qu’un processus de socialisation sous double contrainte (familial et sociétal) diversifie les comportements chez les descendants de migrants et favorise de nouveaux flux migratoires à la faveur d’un marché matrimonial qui s’appuie sur les deux rives de la Méditerranée.
