Abstract
Le présent texte appuie son argumentation sur deux présomptions : à savoir, en premier lieu, que la photographie se prêterait d’emblée au politique, ici entendu comme l’ensemble des rapports de pouvoir qui rendent possible l’image, et, en second lieu, que le corps se prête lui aussi aux figures du politique. Se référant à une position qui comprend l’image dans l’amont de sa préparation, fondée sur l’intentionnalité de l’artiste, l’auteur analyse le cas de l’image connue d’Hippolyte Bayard, Autoportrait en noyé , en plus d’étudier celles des artistes contemporains Rafael Goldchain, Geneviève Cadieux, Chuck Samuels, Evergon, Alexandre Castonguay et Pascal Grandmaison. Au fil des réflexions où l’autoportrait apparaît comme le mode quasi ontologique de la photographie, l’auteur en vient à cerner un pouvoir confondant de la photographie contemporaine, fondée sur le retournement et le leurre.
