Abstract
Le Festival de Cannes est un événement cinématographique qui se donne à voir et à comprendre en dehors des salles obscures : nous avons considéré les festivaliers comme des « corps en action » pris dans un milieu urbain qui se trouve en partie réorganisé pour faciliter la tenue du festival, c’est-à-dire pour faciliter notamment l’arrivée à Cannes des festivaliers, leur accueil et l’accès des spectateurs aux lieux du spectacle cinématographique. Travaillant sur le parcours du festivalier, procès de signification sociale et culturelle qui s’inscrit, de fait, au coeur de la ville de Cannes, nous faisons de l’activité située du spectateur une manifestation expressive privilégiée pour mettre en évidence la manière dont la substance urbaine se trouve ré-informée, voire transformée, par l’événement public qui la prend pour cadre. Il s’agit moins ici de décrire le territoire du festival lui-même que de déterminer les conditions et circonstances de sa formation pour dégager les bases d’une analyse sociosémiotique de la territorialisation d’un événement culturel.
