Abstract
L’analyse du secret chez Simmel, qui désigne un tournant sociologique par rapport à la philosophie des Lumières, comprend une vision spécifique de la « connaissance » interpersonnelle. Celle-ci peut servir de cadre à l’étude des réseaux sociaux sur internet, permettant l’analyse des cercles à travers la grille des données « publiques » et « cachées ». Cependant, elle suscite des problèmes d’ordre épistémologique : en effet, elle semble suggérer que l’image d’autrui se compose par l’agrégation d’éléments de type factuel. Afin d’éviter une telle conclusion, qui est incompatible avec les textes fondamentaux de Simmel, il sera proposé de relire les chapitres de la Sociologie à l’aune de la notion de compréhension, telle qu’elle est développée dans les textes tardifs. Une conception originale du lien social se profilera alors, qui articule les opérations du « connaître » et du « comprendre ».
