Abstract
Dans cet article nous nous intéresserons à la mise en évidence et à l’analyse des représentations de l’immigrant vietnamien à travers la presse écrite en France et au Canada. Les représentations émises au sein des sociétés d’accueil sont des éléments importants constitutifs du capital social et culturel qui motivent les actions des migrants. Si les représentations que l’on produit des immigrants fonctionnent comme des « reflets de miroirs », on peut aisément penser que parfois elles ont un impact important dans les processus de discrimination et aussi sur l’acculturation des uns et des autres et par conséquent sur les stratégies d’intégration des migrants. Tout d’abord, nous nous prêterons à une analyse de textes parus de 1988 à 2005. Puis nous comparerons le portrait de l’immigrant vietnamien décrit dans les presses aux indicateurs d’insertion socioprofessionnelle dans les deux pays pour voir si les discours correspondent à ce que nous pouvons mesurer concrètement.
