The addition of 8 parasitic wires connected to the cavity floor of 2 short backfire antennas were found to modify the radiation pattern shape, enabling the design of a scalar antenna with high aperture efficiency. Measured results and use of the 2 optimised antennas as feeds for low epsiv <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Gamma</sub> lenses and mechanically steered flat plate reflectors will be discussed during the presentation.
