À l'occasion de travaux de génie civil à Vaise (France), les dépôts holocènes accumulés au pied d'un versant ont fait l'objet d'une étude sédimentologique et paléoenvironnementale (malacologie, anthracologie) couplée à de nombreuses dates au14C. Trois zones principales d'accumulation détritique ont été mises en évidence. Elles sont séparées par des zones plus stables, marquées par le développement d'un paléosol complexe. Celui-ci est de type lessivé humique au Préboréal ; il évolue ensuite vers un pôle brun lessivé pendant l'Atlantique parallèlement au développement de la chênaie caducifoliée. Au cours du Subboréal, à la suite d'une forte implantation hu- maine de l'âge du Bronze, le sol acquiert un caractère isohumique. Il est ensuite profondément enfoui sous des colluvions à partir du 1ersiècle ap. J.-C. Une activité torrentielle et fluviatile s'est manifestée de façon discontinue tout au long de l'Holocène. Les accumulations les plus puissantes sont cependant liées à l'aménagement anthropique du versant pendant les deux derniers millénaires, qui s'accompagnent d'une érosion des sols dont l'ampleur est sans précédent depuis la dernière glaciation. Alors que des variations climatiques sont perçues à travers l'évolution des essences végétales par l'anthracologie, la dynamique sédimentaire semble essentiellement déterminée par l'anthropisation du versant. Les crises climatiques des débuts du Subboréal et du Subatlantique, traditionnellement reconnues ailleurs, ne sont pas enregistrées dans la mesure où l'équilibre du milieu forestier reste peu touché pendant ces périodes.
