Abstract
Public history is a culturally entrenched social tool. Work with culturally distinct and disenfranchised communities challenges general assumptions of public history practice and makes ethical demands upon the practitioner. Successful public history projects recognize the cultural context of history, work towards equalizing social and economic power differentials in community-based work, and advocate for changes in practice.
