Le statut du cadavre dépend du statut culturel de la mort. Il ne peut que renvoyer les cultures et les sensibilités individuelles à un débat sans fin. Savoir si le corps n’est qu’un objet indifférent après la mort ou s’il demeure l’homme est une interrogation sans issue. La réponse se fonde uniquement sur des arguments culturels, une vision du monde, un univers de valeurs, elle dépend des représentations de la mort, du corps, elle implique une définition sociale de la personne.
