Les élèves présentant de sévères difficultés d’apprentissage ont souvent un déficit important dans la compréhension de texte, ceci en raison de leur manque de stratégies d’apprentissage et de connaissances métacognitives. Un programme d’entraînement des stratégies métacognitives et de prise de conscience de son propre fonctionnement cognitif a été appliqué durant 12 semaines par des enseignants dans le cadre de formations professionnelles à faible niveau d’exigences. Le présent article expose ce programme, ses conséquences sur les stratégies et les performances des élèves en compréhension de texte ainsi que les effets de transfert éloigné. Les résultats indiquent des effets bénéfiques de l’entraînement sur plusieurs mesures des stratégies et performances. Toutefois, ces effets diffèrent en fonction des aptitudes des élèves et n’apparaissent pas dans une tâche de transfert éloigné.
