En la primera decada del siglo XXI, los conceptos de responsabilidad corporativa y la nocion de desarrollo sostenible han sido ampliamente difundidos tanto en los circulos de investigadores como en los de profesionales de la gestion y de la administracion. El objetivo de este trabajo es proponer algunos elementos aclaratorios con relacion a estos dos conceptos y su relacion con el contexto actual. Este articulo incluye tres partes: inicialmente se presenta una perspectiva historica y la evolucion conceptual de la nocion de responsabilidad corporativa. Luego, se plantea una explicacion acerca de la actual difusion de este concepto y se identifican los vinculos entre los aspectos de desarrollo sostenible y la responsabilidad social corporativa. Por ultimo, se proponen algunas ideas con relacion a la investigacion sobre la responsabilidad empresarial en el contexto colombiano
