Abstract
Cette étude traite de la pratique d’activités physiques chez les aînées de milieux moins bien nantis de Montréal. En s’inspirant du concept de « rupture biographique » de Bury (1982, 1991), elle consiste à voir dans quelle mesure la prise de conscience de la finitude du corps, en tant qu’élément-rupture, a une incidence sur l’adoption de pratiques d’activités physiques. L’analyse révèle que la période de la vieillesse engendre une rupture biographique qui se manifeste, notamment, par un souci accru pour les pratiques de santé préventive. Ces résultats combattent certains stéréotypes qui nuisent aux efforts de promotion de la santé menés auprès des aînées.
