Abstract
Graphene is a 2D - one-atom thick - carbon-based crystal, fabricated for the first time in 2004 through graphite exfoliation [1]. Its unique properties [2], such as the ambipolar field effect and high mobility due to low phonon scattering, soon captured a significant amount of research interest, primarily towards the realization of electronic devices. Furthermore, despite its zero thickness, graphene strongly interacts with electromagnetic waves, exhibiting phenomena such as guidance of low-loss surface plasmon polaritons [3], [4] and significant gyrotropy [5], [6]. This unique interaction with electromagnetic waves opens a new path towards the realization of the thinnest possible electromagnetic devices [7], [8].
