Abstract

We present a search for the decays ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, and ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}$ in data collected at the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC $B$ Factory. Using a data set of $111\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, we find no evidence for a signal in any of the three channels investigated and set the following branching fraction upper limits at the 90% confidence level: $\mathcal{B}({B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}})<6.1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}8}$, $\mathcal{B}({B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}})<8.3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}8}$, and $\mathcal{B}({B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}})<18\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}8}$.
