Abstract
Cet article analyse la politique commerciale du Japon (pcj) pour l’Asie. Cette politique se caractérise par un bilatéralisme et un minilatéralisme innovateurs s’appuyant sur le légalisme et le libre-échange et favorisant une division régionale du travail. L’analyse se base sur un cadre théorique pragmatique qui intègre au nouveau libéralisme les contributions du droit international et de l’économie politique internationale. L’examen de lapcjévoque non pas la position réactive habituelle de Tokyo, mais l’existence de préférences économiques intenses, qui s’expriment dans un appel au légalisme et au libre-échange pour affronter la montée en puissance de la Chine.
