A methodology has been proposed recently by Oh and Vanapalli (2011a) to simulate the applied stress versus settlement (SVS) behavior of model footings in unsaturated sands extending finite element analysis (FEA) using an elastic-perfectly plastic model. The analyses were performed assuming soil profile as a single layer with average matric suction value (i.e. constant total or apparent cohesion and initial tangent elastic modulus). In the present study, this methodology has been extended successfully to simulate the SVS behaviours of in-situ footing (B x L = 1 m x 1 m) load tests (FLT) results in unsaturated sand. In addition, the influence of matric suction with respect to the total cohesion, the initial tangent elastic modulus, and the Poisson's ratio on SVS behaviours is also investigated.
