Abstract

En l'absence de données climatiques analytiques adéquates, la recherche de discontinuités dans la végétation, confrontées avec des limites climatiques synthétiques, permet de définir des climats régionaux distinctifs. La recherche de ces discontinuités s'effectue en deux étapes. Tout d'abord nous avons retenu 202 relevés phytoécologiques établis sur des tills bien drainés dont l'homogénéité texturale a été statistiquement vérifiée. Sur cet ensemble, nous étudions la distribution territoriale des principales espèces végétales qui nous permettent de définir des zones macroclimatiques. Ensuite, au-delà de 900 reconnaissances écologiques sont identifiées par un type physionomique de végétation dominant, expression structurale de la végétation, dont la répartition territoriale permet de subdiviser en 19 régions écologiques l'ensemble des 400 000 km 2 inventoriés dans le territoire de la baie de James.
