Abstract
La lutte contre l’exclusion sociale est l’objectif commun d’une multitude d’actions étatiques qui se déploient dans des contextes nationaux et sociopolitiques variés. Puisant à différentes ressources symboliques, les personnes qui travaillent à ces actions mettent de l’avant des façons singulières de dire l’exclusion sociale et d’intervenir sur elle. Ici, nous traitons du recours au langage de la santé publique que laissent entrevoir les orientations prises par les États français et britannique dans leur lutte contre l’exclusion sociale. Par cette démarche illustrative et exploratoire, nous voulons non seulement montrer divers lieux où s’opère une « sanitarisation du social » mais aussi attirer l’attention sur la réalité de l’exclusion sociale qui est ainsi construite. Cette construction de la réalité ferait-elle exister des exclus sans contrepartie « excluante » ?
