Abstract
An extensive review of the scientific literature on caffeine was conducted by Health Canada [1]. Based on this review the general population of healthy adults is not at risk for potential adverse effects from caffeine at daily consumption levels up to 400mg caffeine. Regarding children, Health Canada advised that 10-12 year olds should not consume more than 85mg caffeine per day, and for adolescents (13-18 years old) a daily caffeine intake up to 2.5mg/kg body weight was regarded as not causing adverse health effects in the majority of adolescent caffeine consumers (i.e.,125 to 175mg caffeine in 50-70kg adolescents.
