Cet article tente de caractériser les recherches relevant de la problématique de la gouvernance dans le cadre des politiques de gestion intégrée et concertée du littoral (GIZC). Ces politiques visent à appliquer les principes du développement durable aux espaces littoraux. A partir d’un cadre d’analyse distinguant la nature des questions et les types de méthodes mobilisées, les auteures effectuent une revue des travaux relatifs à la gouvernance à propos du littoral. Une attention particulière est portée aux travaux qui s’inscrivent dans une logique de gestion intégrée du littoral français. On note une partition des problématiques selon qu’elles appréhendent la gouvernance comme un « outil » pour l’efficacité des politiques publiques ou comme une finalité contribuant à un processus de démocratisation. Il apparaît aussi une focalisation des travaux sur les questions de mobilisation, participation et concertation et un besoin de dépasser des approches locales et souvent empiriques pour proposer des recommandations plus génériques sur la mise en oeuvre de la GIZC.
