Abstract

Synchronous groupware doesn’t have a large uptake outside of research laboratories. We believe that this is because groupware is usually built to support engaged activities and not the transition from individual activities into closely coupled interaction. To address this we are commencing a research program that currently involves a comprehensive literature review and building a prototype for testing. We have chosen to investigate these transitions in the domain of gaming and in this poster we present the initial stages of our first prototype, the T-Lounge. The T-Lounge is a game lounge that supports groups forming and playing games together, as well as being aware of and observing other games in progress. It allows us to explore our ideas about supporting transitions in groupware.
