Abstract
Cet article est le résultat d’un regard sociologique porté sur les finalités de l’enseignement au niveau collégial. S’inspirant d’une part de l’étude de N. Gagnon sur « L’idéologie humaniste dans la revue L’Enseignement secondaire de 1915 à 1960 » et, d’autre part, de documents institutionnels (les Rapports Parent, Tremblay, Nadeau), les auteurs tentent de caractériser l’évolution accusée par le concept d’humanisme et le type d’homme implicitement défini depuis la révolution tranquille. Dans un deuxième temps, il s’agit pour les auteurs de vérifier l’adéquation entre les nécessités de ce nouvel humanisme et les objectifs et contenus de la programmation véhiculés par le niveau collégial depuis sa création. Apparaissent alors les questions de fond : celle de la pertinence des cours de culture générale/fondamentale à l’intérieur de l’enseignement collégial et celle du rôle que doit jouer le niveau collégial par rapport aux niveaux secondaire et universitaire.
