Abstract
Penser l'itinérance comme processus ouvre sur deux grandes questions. Comment peut-on empêcher ce processus de déqualification d'arriver à son terme ultime (le fait de se trouver dans la rue avec une identité itinérante) ? il s'agit alors de prévention. Comment peut-on (ré)instaurer un processus inverse permettant de modifier la condition d'itinérant ? on parle alors de (ré)insertion ou de (ré)affiliation. La réponse à ces questions ne peut se limiter à la seule inversion des processus généraux ou particuliers ayant mené à l'itinérance. Dans cet article, nous nous intéressons à cette seconde question, c'est-à-dire celle de la mise en oeuvre d'un processus d'inflexion de l'itinérance. Ce processus de transformation ne s'organise pas selon un modèle linéaire et progressif, mais se développe plutôt à travers l'enchevêtrement d'essais personnels, d'expériences positives et d'événements significatifs entraînant des inflexions biographiques reconfigurant en quelque sorte l'histoire de vie. Notre matériau d'analyse est constitué de discours des femmes itinérantes (31 entrevues non directives). Nous rendons compte des formes distinctes de représentations de l'action dans une typologie comportant trois figures : 1) le fatalisme ; 2) l'impuissance ; 3) l'appropriation.
