L'auteure se prête dans le cadre de cet article à une étude du silence non pas au mais pour le cinéma. Elle le fait presque a contrario , d'abord en supposant que, des silences au cinéma, il n’y en a pratiquement pas, ensuite en en faisant jouer le principe ailleurs, dans une lettre, un poème, une toile. La mise en évidence du caractère cinétique – phénoménologique en fait – que signale le silence dans d’autres écritures aide à penser, pour le cinéma, la sorte de lecture attachée à l’écriture filmique, la sorte de lisibilité attachée à la visibilité du film. L’auteure suppose notamment que, parce que silencieux et offerts à la lecture, les intervalles comme les entours des images constituent des sortes de supports pour l'écriture filmique. Les silences incitent à reconnaître l'apport d'une intentionnalité, invitent, lorsqu’ils sont marqués, à des variations de l'imagination, à la lecture d'une écriture de la mémoire, à l'emprunt, autrement dit, d'une pensée de l'énonçable et du mémorable.
