Abstract

Au sein d’une congrégation pentecôtiste montréalaise rassemblant principalement des immigrants d’origine africaine, nous montrerons que la communauté religieuse se substitue au groupe d’appartenance laissé au pays et qu’elle joue un rôle central dans l’adaptation de ses membres à la société d’accueil. Après avoir décrit la congrégation et les services qu’elle offre aux immigrants pour faciliter leur installation, nous définirons l’origine et la nature des liens sociaux qui la soudent. L’attention sera portée sur les nouveaux modes d’articulation des affiliations religieuses et des marqueurs ethniques qui s’y développent. Par ailleurs, nous soulignerons l’influence de la communauté sur la trajectoire migratoire de ses membres et évaluerons dans quelle mesure le cadre normatif transmis lors du rituel se compare à celui du pays d’accueil. Finalement, nous examinerons le comportement social et éthique prôné par le pasteur, ainsi que les représentations et pratiques véhiculées quant aux rôles et rapports familiaux.
