Abstract
Résumé Les stratégies de scolarisation de familles migrantes d’origine française installées à Toronto, métropole anglophone, sont étudiées à partir d’un travail de terrain autour de la création d’une école française. Des conduites sociolinguistiques complexes apparaissent. Les attitudes vis-à-vis de l’école, sont liées aux options de socialisation que chaque migrant prend durant son parcours dans des négociations avec lui-même et son entourage. La mixité linguistique et/ou culturelle des couples s’en trouve interrogée. L’école créée a été perçue comme un lieu de construction de compétences dépassant les clivages souvent linguistiques des sociétés torontoise et canadienne. Pourtant, la multiplication d’objectifs antinomiques a opposé les tenants de l’école francophone internationale d’élite et les défenseurs d’une école similaire à celles de France… Finalement, le dénominateur commun fut la construction d’un bilinguisme dans lequel les codes sont séparés et les langues maîtrisées. La question identitaire, en situations minoritaires, est intimement liée à celle de la langue.
