Résumé Née en 1977 de la fusion de deux chaines privées, Télé Liban devait conserver le monopole de l'audiovisuel libanais jusqu'en 2012. Cependant, profitant de la communautarisation d'un territoire morcelé et de la faiblesse des institutions étatiques, le secteur privé « illégal » se réintroduit à partir de 1985. Une fois la guerre terminée, le paysage audiovisuel est régulé en 1994. Mieux financées, mieux équipées et souvent placées sous le contrôle d'intérêts extérieurs, les chaînes privées reçoivent un soutien politique inconditionnel au détriment de Télé Liban. Aussi, cette dernière ne parvient pas à s'adapter à un secteur devenu concurrentiel et sa production subit un fléchissement très net, mais elle arrive néanmoins à conserver une place relative, jusqu'à l'émergence d'un nouveau paysage communicationnel, complexe et mouvant, dont les conditions pourraient donner le coup de grâce au service public audiovisuel libanais.
