La structure cristallographique de l’εnzyme ARN polymérase II, libre ou en plein acte de transcription, révèle comment cette machine moléculaire utilise l’information contenue dans l’ADN génique pour fabriquer les molécules d’ARNm qui dirigeront ensuite la synthèse des protéines. La résolution de la structure atomique de cette enzyme centrale au processus d’expression génique aura des retombées importantes : elle permettra l’interprétation plus adéquate de certaines données biochimiques et génétiques et elle ouvrira la voie à la modélisation moléculaire de drogues ciblant la transcription.
