Abstract
Dans le sud-ouest de l'océan Indien, les changements climatiques se traduiront probablement par des phénomènes cycloniques plus importants. Les petites îles sont souvent dépassées par ces situations de catastrophe dont le bilan humain et matériel peut être très lourd. Pour illustrer les impacts potentiels d'un tel changement, l'article propose d'étudier l'archipel des Comores localisé dans le canal du Mozambique. Cet ensemble insulaire comporte en effet deux îles voisines qui permettent des comparaisons puisque l'une, Mayotte, est un territoire français structuré alors que l'autre, Anjouan, est encore à un stade de sous-développement du fait de son instabilité politique. En outre, la spécificité des deux îles est aussi d'être liées par l'histoire et fortement interdépendantes l'une de l'autre au niveau démographique. Au-delà du différentiel de développement, une véritable gestion commune du risque cyclonique se fait attendre. De nombreuses pratiques vont même à l'encontre de toute durabilité pour ces populations directement établies sur le trait de côte.
