Abstract
En éste artículo se presenta el concepto de liderazgo distribuido como una alternativa a los modelos jerárquicos de liderazgo. Según éste concepto, el liderazgo es una propiedad de los grupos y organizaciones y no un rasgo de la personalidad. Tradicionalmente, la investigación se ha concentrado en identificar los rasgos de la personalidad y las actuaciones ideales de los líderes, desconociendo que el liderazgo también se manifi esta de manera colectiva, como un fenómeno multi-nivel. Se ofrece un recorrido por distintos modelos de liderazgo escolar y se introduce una reciente alternativa a la concepción individualista del liderazgo, denominada liderazgo distribuido. Se argumenta que el cambio y el mejoramiento institucional en la escuela contemporánea dependen en gran medida de la participación colectiva en la toma de decisiones así como de la existencia del liderazgo docente en niveles distintos a la dirección.
