Abstract
This review presents the most recent findings on radiocaesium cycling in temperate forest ecosystems, which are specified with selected examples. Based on a matrix method it was concluded that key processes occur at the soilplant interface, the rhizosphere, and that the three most important compartments are fungal structures, plant roots, and clay minerals. The complexity of forest ecosystems led to the development of several sub-models, which then are combined in one package. Research needs to be directed towards more standardized and comparable data sets, which then can be used for modelling and can be integrated in geographical information systems. key words: radioecology, forest, soil, caesium, fluxes.
