Abstract
Après quelques considérations générales sur la « débilité » et la « déficience », l’auteur rapporte quatre interventions d’une orthopédagogue à l’endroit d’un enfant classé « débile léger » mais qui, à cause de certaines circonstances, est placé dans une classe de « débiles moyens ». À partir de ces quatre interventions, l’auteur fait ressortir l’importance de la relation dans la rééducation du « débile »; relation tant au sens où Rogers l’a entendue (authenticité, empathie, acceptation d’autrui) qu’au sens où Glasser l’a entendue dans sa « Reality therapy » (établissement d’un lien à partir duquel s’élabore un sens de la responsabilité chez le « patient » ou l’enfant). Cet article veut surtout montrer qu’avec un « débile » comme avec beaucoup d’« enfants-problèmes », la rééducation n’a d’efficacité que dans la mesure où une « relation » (Rogers) ou un lien (Glasser) s’établissent entre le pédagogue et l’enfant. Cet article insiste également sur l’importance de la relation entre le pédagogue et la famille de l’enfant, importance particulièrement vue ici dans le cas d’un « débile », mais qui peut facilement être vue comme une condition générale de « rééducation ».
