Abstract
El objetivo de este artículo es ilustrar el carácter construido, flexible y multiforme de estructuras y procesos intergeneracionales de la familia utilizando como ejemplo su evolución histórica en los EEUU, y compartir resultados de investigaciones y nuevas conceptualizaciones de cambios recientes, para contribuir a una mejor comprensión del impacto del proceso de socialización intrafamiliar sobre la formación de futuras generaciones. El artículo contiene 5 partes que cubren los siguientes temas: la familia y su complejidad, concepciones diversas y transformación histórica de la familia; la modificación de roles e identidades de género y la nueva paternidad; la parentalidad, sus tareas durante la adolescencia, considerando el desarrollo cognitivo, la emotividad y cambios de autoconceptos del adolescente y la adolescente, y el manejo de conflictos familiares; los efectos de estilos parentales, (desde el control rígido hasta la inducción y democracia); la calidez y aceptación, la entrega de información, las conductas limitantes y capacitadoras, la conectividad; y la importancia de los cambios contextuales. Concluye el artículo preguntando: hasta qué punto pueden estos conocimientos ayudar a las familias en América Latina a crear una sociedad más pacífica y justa?
