Abstract
A uniform and nonhomogeneous cable was used as a ring model to simulate one-dimensional reentry involving a segment of ischemic myocardium. Regular reentry was obtained when the ring was long enough. The presence of an ischemic segment (about 10% of the pathway length) triggers a wave of secondary repolarization during regular reentry, leading to cyclic fluctuations in temporal and spatial action potential characteristics. In comparison with reentry on a uniform and homogeneous ring, the major effect of the ischemic segment is to shorten the minimum pathway length required for regular reentry.>
