Abstract
Le terme violence extrême est appliqué dans les contextes les plus variables par les chercheurs, contextes marqués par la violence, la fureur, la haine, les massacres et la cruauté. Il s’agit, à travers l’étude du conflit ethnique vécu par les populations de l’ex-Yougoslavie durant les années 1990, de tenter d’expliquer la négation de l’humanité dans l’Autre que l’on extermine. Cet article se veut une réflexion sur les différentes manifestations de la cruauté et des crimes de profanation observées durant ce conflit et qui ont atteint l’intégrité physique, psychique et morale de ces populations, individuellement et collectivement. L’analyse anthropologique, au-delà des statistiques macabres, permet de resituer les concepts de cruauté et de profanation dans un cadre d’intentionnalité des agents sociaux.
